Offshore Geotechnical Investigation
Technical capabilities of Baran Khak va Pey Consulting Engineering for offshore geotechnical studies includes, but not limited to:
- Offshore drilling using a self-elevating barge (Jack-UP) owned by Baran Khak va Pay Company,
- Offshore drilling using devices equipped with Heave Compensation;
- Performing offshore continuous and interval Cone Penetration Test (CPTu);
- Sampling in shallow, semi-deep and deep waters, using various gravity corers or drop corers, grab samplers and vibrocorers;
- On-board laboratory services (specially for sea) including all physical and strength testing such as torvane tests (manual and miniature), pocket penetrometer, triaxial UU and uniaxial;
- Determining bearing capacity of offshore piles using relevant standards;
- Predicting performance of offshore piles under different loading;
- Analyzing drivability of piles using dynamic methods and GRLWEAP offshore software;
- Determining bearing capacity of bed layers under embankment and temporary foundation (Mudmats) surface loads.
Offshore studies
Self-elevating barges or floating platforms cannot be used to drill geotechnical boreholes deeper than 20 meters, because self-elevating barges used in greater depths are very heavy and require geotechnical investigation before being set up. Therefore, in places where self-elevating or floating platform modes cannot be used, drilling operations are performed using flat barges equipped with geotechnical equipment. Here the drilling device is equipped with a Heave Compensation system and performs drilling with the aid of a Seabed Frame and riser rods. In this type of barge, proper layout of required equipment such as drilling rig layout, mud pumping system, drilling rods, etc. is of particular importance, an example of which is provided below.
